Please HELP!!!

Updated: Feb 20

Most people don't understand why they should pay someone to pressure spray their home when it looks like it is easy enough to it do themselves or have just anyone that shows up with a pressure washer do it.

A few months ago, after a long day of washing houses, I had just finished putting our equipment "to bed" for the day and sat down for some well-deserved rest and supper when our phone rang. On the other end was a couple who sounded rather stressed and asked if we could help them out.

Apparently, someone had offered to wash their house for them and gave them a low price. Once they agreed to it, he showed up in a car with an electric pressure washer and began. After spending almost 8 hours working on the house, he finally approached them and said he could not complete the job as his equipment could not do it. He then proceeded to charge them for over half of what he quoted, but had actually only done one side of the house.

Being a older couple on a fixed income they were at a loss with not enough funds to hire someone else. I told them I would be right over, loaded up my equipment and was there in about 20 minutes. Upon arrival I immediately noticed the damage he had done to their aging and oxidized siding. They were not aware that he had damaged it like the picture above and we even found screens that had been punctured by too much pressure being applied. We offered to finish the other three sides of the house at our cost to help them out which we were glad to do, but one side of their house remains as a visual reminder of their ordeal.

Every season we have these types of calls. When selecting someone to do your exterior cleaning, take some time to consider more than just the price. By trying to save a few dollars, this ended up costing them several thousands of dollars in damage that they did not even know had happened and had even paid the guy for.

Things to consider when needing your exterior cleaned:

  • Is this really a DIY project that I know enough about how to do without damaging my property?

  • Do I have the right equipment for the project?

  • If hiring someone, are they fully licensed and insured?

  • Do they have good references that I can check with or read about online?
