Toward the end of the 2023 pressure washing season here in central eastern Missouri, we received several "call backs" by customers noticing these "stains" after we had washed and thoroughly rinsed their vinyl sided houses. These "stains" are really not stains at all, but simply some dirt that leached out of the weep holes in the vinyl siding as it dried.
Unfortunately, these cannot be seen while the siding is still wet meaning they often do not show up until after we have packed up our gear and left the job site. In considering why these happen more often at certain times of the year, I have found that there is a direct correlation between the frequency and severity of these "stains" and the amount of rain (or in this case the lack thereof) during the last month or so.
The drier and dustier the air is, the more prone the siding is to leave these stains. If you have someone come to wash your house and these are left behind, don't panic. Contrary to what you may think, these are not "stains" left from the cleaning process, but rather some dust that has leached out during the drying process. A dry cloth will quickly remove them or a light rinse of water. Or better yet, wait for the first rain and you will find they disappear quite quickly.
Most cleaning companies will explain the possibility of this happening prior to washing your house. It is important for the customer to determine what is acceptable to them. If there are only a few of these and very light and not very noticeable, it is fine to just wait for the first rain to remove them. If however, the "stains" are pronounced or there are a lot of them and VERY noticeable, you will most certainly want to call the company back out and they should be glad to come do a rinse to get rid of these.
Chances are that if we have had an average to above average amount of rainfall in the last 30 days or so, you will never have these after the house is washed. If, however, it has been very dry and/or very dusty, don't be surprised if these show up on your house.
